L. Paul Bailey


Sheriff Bailey has proudly served the residents of Berrien County as a police officer since 1979 and was elected Sheriff in 2001. The Sheriff is the executive head and is vested with full power and authority over the organization as outlined by the Constitution and statues of the State of Michigan.

Sheriff Bailey is a graduate of Eau Claire High School, and has attended Lake Michigan College, Willmar Community College and Western Michigan University. The Sheriff was the Chief of Police in Stevensville, Michigan and was a patrolman for Schoolcraft Police Department and St. Joseph Township Police Department.

Sheriff Bailey married his high school sweetheart Peggy in 1978. They have three daughters, one son, and nine grandchildren who he enjoys spending time with. The Bailey's are members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Niles.
