SEASONAL WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS REMAIN IN EFFECT
FOR BERRIEN COUNTY ROADS
TOWNSHIP(S): All Berrien County Townships
BEGINNING: Monday, March 1, 2021 at 0600 HRS
ENDDING: To be determined*
SUBJECT: The Berrien County Road Department ordered seasonal weight restrictions or “Frost Laws” to take effect on March 1, 2021 on Berrien County Roads. At this time, it has been determined that these seasonal weight and speed restrictions will remain in effect, until otherwise noted.* The BCRD will reevaluate conditions at the end of this week. Another update will be provided on Friday of this week.
TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:
- Enacting seasonal weight restrictions reduces the “Maximum Axle Load” by 35% per axle MCL 257.722(5).
- Speed is also reduced to 35mph for all commercial vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Rating of 10,000lbs or more MCL 257.627(6).
- The maximum wheel load shall be reduced to 450lbs. psi. of tire width MCL 257.722(5).

All oversized vehicles are reminded to contact our offices to speak with the Berrien County Road Department Weighmaster regarding written approval for any oversized trips.
