OVERSIZED LOAD TRANSPORTATION: Drivers should expect some delays along John Beers Road this summer. Large generator components will be transported through Berrien County to the Niles Gas Power Plant. These super loads will result in stopping or slowing traffic along their route.
The first super load on 7/21/2020 was transported along John Beers Road to the staging area at the intersection of John Beers Road and M-139. This load will continue along state route M-139 to its final destination on 7/22/2020.
The second super load originally scheduled for 7/22/2020 has been postponed; contractor permitting it will be transported on 7/23/2020 to the staging area located at the John Beers Road and M-139 intersection instead. Approximate timeline for travel along John Beers Road is between Noon and 2pm. Expect delays and closures during this time.
TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: John Beers Road between I-94 to M-139 will see temporary closures for super load moves. These oversized loads move very slowly and will take up both lanes of John Beers Road. The public should anticipate road closures and delays when oversized loads are being transported.
Oversized moves will take place Monday through Friday between 9am and 3pm. Moves will not occur during inclement weather. As confirmation of these dates and timeline of their arrival to the county road network is known, updates will be posted online.
Pilot vehicles will be escorting the oversized loads and state law enforcement will be assisting with traffic control during operation. The Road Department advises that any motorists or public in the area during these moves to drive cautiously and heed all directions from law enforcement and road escorts.
