Household Goods

Check with your local community service and religious organizations to learn about household goods donations opportunities. Some of these local services are listed below.

  • Drop Boxes: stand alone drop off collection bins for clothing, household goods, and other items are located in various parts of the county. Pay attention to information on the bin and research the company or organization listed on the bin to understand where your donated items are going.
  • Emergency Shelter: 645 Pipestone St., Benton Harbor, 269-925-1131. Donations accepted daily before 7 p.m. Accepts: dishes, clean towels, sheets, blankets, baby items in good condition, and personal care and cleaning products. For clothing donations, see Six Degrees Resale Shop below.
  • Freecycle: help local people reduce and keep good items out of the landfill.
  • Goodwill: accepts gently used clothing, shoes & boots, outerwear, books, games, toys, housewares, furniture (call ahead with big items, accepted at specific sites only), antiques, tools, blankets, sporting goods, automobiles and other vehicles, and computers. Do not leave items outside the donation centers or stores after hours. Donations are tax deductible. Donation pick up service is available, call the store.

  • Harbor Country Emergency Food Pantry & Thrift Store: 301 N. Elm St., Three Oaks, 269-756-7444. Call before dropping off donations.
  • Harbor Country Mission: 269-326-0077. Accepts: usable goods, housewares, home furnishings, small working appliances, clean bedding, pans, cabinets, doors, clothes, etc. Harbor Country Mission serves our neighbors in need throughout Berrien County. Items donated will be gifted to those in need, sold at the thrift store or recycled through various means. Vintage Finds Thrift Store, 12816 Red Arrow Hwy, Sawyer, assists in funding the overall mission. Donation pick up service may be available.
  • Harbor Habitat ReStore: 2302 Plaza Dr., Benton Harbor, 269-927-0006. Accepts: furniture, appliances, cabinets, doors, lighting, windows, plumbing, electrical supplies, and other construction materials. Items must be in great or reusable condition and in working order. Scrap metal is also accepted. Donation pick up service is available.
  • Helping Hands Ministry: 528 Ferry St., Niles, next to Mount Calvary Church, 269-683-3813. Accepts: gently used children's clothing from newborn to 16 years, in good condition. Also accepts non-perishable food.
  • Kids Closet at Ellis House: 11 S. 4th St., Niles, 269-340-4672. Accepts: gently used clothing for children and teens, birth through high school. No socks, underwear, or adult clothes. Kids Closet is a community ministry working to address needs of Niles residents.
  • Mosaic Resale Shop & Resource Center: 38 W. Wall St., Benton Harbor, 269-925-9925. Accepts: clothing, books, shoes, housewares, artwork, small appliances, furniture, toys, CDs and DVDs. Items must be in good and reusable condition. Drop off items during operating hours only. Pick up service is available.
  • Neighbor to Neighbor: 9147 U.S. 31 North, Berrien Springs, 269-471-7411. Accepts: clothing, non-perishable food, books, small appliances, kitchen items, furniture, bedding, fabric and craft supplies.
  • Salvation Army: Donation drop box at 424 N. 15th St., Niles, 269-684-2660. Accepts: new or gently used clothing and household goods. To ask about pick up service, call 219-882-9377 and ask for Donation Department.
  • Six Degrees Resale Shop: 205 W. Main St., Benton Harbor, 269-927-6060. Benefits the Emergency Shelter, Inc. Accepts: new or like-new kitchen and household items, furniture, working appliances, jewelry, antiques, bedding and linens, books, clothes, and more. Drop off items at the store. Call to arrange pickups.
  • Value Land World Mission Thrift Store: 1804 M-139, Benton Harbor, 269-927-4134. Accepts: clothing and household items in good and reusable condition.

Tips on Reducing Household Waste

  • Second hand stores, pawn shops, antique stores, consignment shops, and garage sales are great places to sell unwanted items or buy used items at low prices.
  • Renting equipment that you may only use occasionally is a great way reduce waste in the long run, conserve space in the garage, and save money.
