Board of Commissioners Services
The County Administrator is appointed by the Berrien County Board of Commissioners to implement board policies; to oversee the daily activities of the County, to serve as the Chief Administrative Officer and as the Chief Financial Officer, and to supervise the appointed department heads within the County. The central staff within County Administration is responsible to assisting the board in:
- Meeting identified goals
- Developing agenda items for the Board of Commissioners
- Writing procedures to accompany board policies
- Providing legal counsel in all county matters
- Providing Human Resource functions to include recruiting, collective bargaining, health care and compensation issues
- Financial Service functions
- Purchasing functions
- Other general administrative support activities
Responsibilities
Brian Dissette became the County Administrator on July 1, 2020. The Administrator is responsible for directing the Central Administrative functions of County government and acting as a conduit on behalf of the Board of Commissioners between County Officers, department heads, and the general public. A major service provided by the Administrator’s office is preparation and execution of a balanced county operational budget of approximately $188 million and a defined benefit pension program over $200 million. The County is staffed with full time employees. The Administrator also serves as the Plan Administrator of the pension program.
