Register of Deeds

Welcome to the Register of Deeds’ website!  Exploration of this site is highly encouraged as its content is intended to provide useful information needed when preparing documents for recording and/or searching land records.  

The Register of Deeds’ office is a constitutional office established by the Michigan State Legislature. The Register serves as the custodian of documents pertaining to real property in Berrien County.

The Register’s office pledges to efficiently record documents, provide an accurate index, and safely and securely preserve and protect these records for yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow’s generations.

The Register’s office goals are:

  • To extend outstanding customer services providing a safe, professional and positive environment in which to conduct business.  
  • To efficiently and accurately accept and process all documents recordable pursuant to the Michigan Recording Act.  
  • To continue pursuing new technologies, that once implemented, will enhance the input, storage and retrieval of Berrien County’s land records.

Online services provide a convenient and centralized method to access Berrien County’s recorded land records.  Indexes and images for deeds and other documents are available from 1831 to present.  (Mortgages, Assignment of Mortgages & Discharge of Mortgages are available from 1950 to present.)  

It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as Berrien County Register of Deeds.  Whether you need to record a document or retrieve a copy of a document, the Register of Deeds’ dedicated team and I will continue to strive for excellence in all aspects of your use of and/or visit to our office.   You can feel confident that the Register of Deeds team is preserving Berrien County’s history one good deed at a time.
