Alerting People With Additional Needs

In Berrien County, we use the following systems to alert the general public:

  1. Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) - Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)
  2. B-WARN!
  3. NOAA Weather Radios
  4. Marine Band Radios (channel 16 [156.8 MHz])
  5. Sirens (only 10 miles around a nuclear generating facility)
  6. Emergency Alert System
  7. Route Alerting

After you learn more about each system, if you believe you or another person you know well in Berrien County, would be unable to be alerted of a disaster in Berrien County you should do one of the following:

  1. Notify us using the online form here
  2. Fill out the Functional Needs Card that is printed in the annual public information brochure sent out by the Nuclear Generating Station.
  3. Call us at 269-983-7111 extension 4915, Monday through Friday 9 AM - 4 PM.
