HEALTH DEPARTMENT

  • The Health Department offices and clinics in Benton Harbor and Niles remain open to the public, although most services are available by appointment only; walk-ins are only being accepted on a limited basis. 
    The Three Oaks office remains closed until further notice.
    Other program and service changes include: 
    • Clinics are available by appointment for immunizations and all Sexual Health clinical services, such as birth-control supply visits, annual visits, and STD testing/treatment. TB tests are available as needed.
    • Any clinical questions or concerns can be directed to Public Health Nursing, who have nurses available via telephone for questions from clients.  
    • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue client appointments, but will move to as many tele-health visits as possible and will authorize and/or extend benefits over the phone.
    • Water filters/replacement cartridges are still available for Benton Harbor residents to pick-up in office or can be mailed upon request. Residents can call 1-800-815-5485 (select option #2) to have a filter/cartridge mailed to them.
    • Community coalition meetings, events, classes, and other community gatherings have been altered to ensure social distancing and wellness of participants are maintained. Please contact designated staff for current meeting formats and times. 
    • Home visiting services, parenting classes, and Children’s Special Health Care Services are shifting to predominately tele-health visits/consultations, and in-person services are limited. 
    • All Hearing and Vision pre-school screenings continue to be postponed until further notice.
    • All clients are asked to call to reschedule appointments if they are feeling ill. Client appointments have been spaced throughout the day to maintain appropriate distancing for those visiting and working in the clinic.
    • As offices remain open, the public is encouraged to call with further questions about services that are available at this time. BCHD staff are working hard continue monitoring and managing COVID-19 response and will continue to provide new information to the community as things change.
