Berrien County has 13 Scheduled Medical Waste Collection Events in 2012: household medical waste (pills, liquid medication, patches, and needles/syringes) are accepted at the 9 Household Hazardous Waste Collections and 4 Clean Sweep Collections.

Clean Sweep Collections (4) dates are Wed., June 27; Wed., July 25; Wed., Aug. 29; and Wed., Sept. 26, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. The location of all 4 Clean Sweep events is 2860 E. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor (look for event signs). Call with questions, 983-7111 x8234.

The Drug Enforcement Agency periodically partners with local law enforcement agencies for pill drop-off collections. See www.justice.gov/dea to learn more about these events.
Home medical waste is not regulated under the MI Medical Waste Management Act, therefore common sense and caution should guide individuals in the safe disposal of home medical waste. Do not flush medical waste. Needles or sharps, old prescription medicine, etc can be disposed of properly using the methods listed above.
