• For Seniors - Berrien County Crime Prevention: contact the Sheriff's Crime Prevention Officer, 983-7141 ext.7221 or your local Senior Center for more information.
• Berrien County has 13 Scheduled Medical Waste Collection Events in 2012: household medical waste (pills, liquid medication, patches, and needles/syringes) are accepted at the 9 Household Hazardous Waste Collections and 4 Clean Sweep Collections.
  • Household Hazardous Waste Collections (9): click HERE for dates, times, and locations. 
  • Clean Sweep Collections (4) dates are Wed., June 27; Wed., July 25; Wed., Aug. 29; and Wed., Sept. 26, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. The location of all 4 Clean Sweep events is 2860 E. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor (look for event signs). Call with questions, 983-7111 x8234.
• Buffalo Drugs: 1 N. Whittaker St., New Buffalo. 469-3636. No controlled substances or sharps.
• Health Care Provider: check with your health care provider for other available collection options.
• Van's Pharmacy: 807 Napier Ave., St. Joseph. 983-4802. No controlled substances or sharps.
• Stay tuned to local media and this website for announcements of 1-day, special medical collection events through the year.
• The Drug Enforcement Agency periodically partners with local law enforcement agencies for pill drop-off collections. See www.justice.gov/dea to learn more about these events.

Home medical waste is not regulated under the MI Medical Waste Management Act, therefore common sense and caution should guide individuals in the safe disposal of home medical waste. Do not flush medical waste. Needles or sharps, old prescription medicine, etc can be disposed of properly using the methods listed above.
