Bags: Paper & Plastic

Many local grocery stores and retail shops are accepting plastic bags for recycling. Ask about bag recycling at your favorite store.

  • Lowe's Home Improvement: 1300 Mall Dr., Benton Harbor, 927-6000 and 2055 S. 11th St., Niles, 591-3000. Accepts plastic bags.
  • Martin's Super Market: 2121 Cleveland Ave., St. Joseph, 983-5172; 5637 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville, 429-1711; 720 S. 11th St., Niles, 684-2722. Accepts plastic bags.
  • Meijer: 1920 Pipestone Rd., Benton Harbor, 926-7204; 5019 Red Arrow Hwy, Stevensville, 556-2480. Accepts plastic bags.
  • Recycling Programs: most curbside and drop-off programs will accept BROWN PAPER BAGS for recycling. Check with your local program. See CURBSIDE RECYCLING or DROP-OFF RECYCLING in this guide.
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Day: accepts plastic grocery bags for recycling.
  • Reuse plastic and paper grocery bags when shopping.
  • Staples: 1485 Mall Dr., Benton Harbor. 927-2242. Accepts plastic bags.
  • Target: 960 Fairplain Dr., Benton Harbor. 925-1205. Accepts plastic bags.
  • Walmart: 1400 Mall Drive in Benton Harbor and 2107 S. Eleventh Street in Niles.
  • Cloth Bags: use cloth bags - they are very sturdy and can be reused many times.
