Berrien County Prosecuting Attorney

Prosecuting Attorney
Arthur J. Cotter

The Berrien County Prosecutor's Office is responsible for enforcing state laws at the county level. As such, the office prosecutes all felony offenses occurring in the county and all of the misdemeanor and civil infractions that are not covered by city and township ordinances.

Juvenile delinquency petitions are reviewed, authorized and prosecuted in Family Court, and the office represents the Department of Human Services during abuse and neglect proceedings. The Prosecutor's Office defends and initiates appeals in the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.

The Victim/Witness Unit acts as a liaison between the Prosecutor's Office and crime victims, notifying them of important court dates and conveying their impact statements to the Judges prior to sentencing.
Additionally, the office aids parents in establishing paternity and setting child support payments.
