The County Drain Commissioner is responsible for the administration of the State Drain Laws (P.A. 40 of 1956, as amended). His major duties include: Processing petitions for construction of new or major repair of existing drains; apportioning costs of the project among property owners according to benefits received; supervising regular maintenance on existing drains; and maintaining records of all County Drains. Also, he is the enforcing agent for the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Act (P.A. 347 of 1972) for the County of Berrien.
